Catechism Day Celebrated with Devotion and Enthusiasm at Mount Rosary Church

Udupi, 25 Feb: Catechism Day was celebrated with great devotion and joy at Mount Rosary Church 23rd February 2025 marking a significant occasion for the parish community. The day commenced with a solemn High Mass at 8:00 AM, celebrated by Parish Priest Rev. Dr. Roque D’Souza along with Assistant Vicar Rev. Fr. Oliver Nazareth. The children from Class I to X led the liturgy and actively participated in the choir, filling the church with their angelic voices and youthful enthusiasm.
Following the Mass, the celebration continued at the Millennium Auditorium, where Mrs. Lavina D’Souza, the Convenor of the Catechism Commission, along with all the catechism teachers, organized a meaningful programme.
At 9:30 AM, the gathering began with a prayerful invocation by the children, setting a reverent tone for the event. The dignitaries, including Rev. Dr. Roque D’Souza, and others were welcomed florally with fresh roses, expressing gratitude for their spiritual guidance. Chief Guest Ms. Ashley D’Souza, National Secretary of ICYM a charming leader of youth, in her inspiring speech, encouraged children to grow in faith and moral values.
In his insightful address, Rev. Dr. Roque D’Souza, who presided over the stage programme, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the sacrifices and dedication of the catechism teachers, recognizing their invaluable role in shaping young minds. He also congratulated the children for their active participation throughout the year and acknowledged the parents for nurturing their children’s faith journey.
A vibrant cultural programme followed, with children from various age groups presenting performances that beautifully conveyed moral and ethical values. Their talents and creativity were met with enthusiastic applause from the audience.
The winners of various games and final catechism exams were honoured with certificates, gifts, and prizes, presented by the distinguished guests, including Mr. Luke D’Souza, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council; Mrs. Priya Furtado, Secretary; and Mrs. Daisy Mendonca, Coordinator of 20 Commissions.
As a token of appreciation, all catechism teachers were recognized and felicitated with mementos, acknowledging their selfless service in imparting religious education to the children.
The Catechism Day celebrations not only strengthened the bond of faith among the children and their families but also reinforced the importance of spiritual learning within the parish. The event concluded on a joyful note, leaving everyone inspired and enriched in their faith journey.
