Udupi Parish bags coveted over all championship of 14th Konkani Singing Competition Runners up by Mo

Shankerpura, 30 Oct 2017: The 14th diocesan level Konkani Singing Competition held at Pangala St. John the Evangelist Parish on Sunday the 29th October 2017, won by Udupi Parish and runners up trophies bagged by Moodubelle Parish (1st) and Kuntalnagar(2nd).

 

ICYM Pangla unit unit holds this prestigious diocesan level singing competition every year since last 14 years. This year on suggestion by HE Most Rev. Dr. Jerald Isaac Lobo (Bishop of Udupi diocese) has suggested to include competition to little children too and hence it was introduced to two categories i.e. one is below 10 years (solo and group) and second for the age group of 11 to 15 (solo and group). Over all 21 parishes of Udupi Diocese took part in the mega competition as far as Byndoor and Miyar (Karkal).

 

The competition was very well organized by ICYM Pangla Unit and completed successfully to the admiration of our Bishop and the guests and judges.

 

The mega competition began with Inaugural function attended by guest of Honour Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonsa (Chancellor-Udupi Diocese) Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Gonsalves (Parish Priest-Pangla Parish), Rev. Fr. Vincent Coello (Principal – St. John’s Academy High School and St. John’s PU College), judges of the competition namely Mr. Ronald Crasta, Mr. Lloyd (Thakode), Mr. Robin Sequeira, Ms. Shilpa Cutinha (Kulsekar), Ms. Zeena Angelore, Mr. Roshan Angelore, Mr. Mark Vaz (VP Parish Council), Ms. Clara Mendonsa (Secretary Parish Council), Ms. Seema D’Souza and Mr. Victor Mendonsa.

 

The event was inaugurated by lighting of the traditional lamp by the honorary guests on dais. Nihal Dias (President, ICYM Pangla) accorded a warm welcome to the guests and singers. Fr. Ferdinand in his key note address said that he was very happy to be present to the prestigious Konkani Singing Contest for the first time as Parish Priest of the Pangala Parish. ICYM Pangla doing a yeoman service by organizing the singing competition for the last 14 years which is praiseworthy and that too on diocesan level must be applauded and appreciated. He wishes all the singers good luck and thanked all the parishes esp. Byndoor (who have come from other corner of Udupi Diocese and Miyar (from Karkal District). He wished all the organizers all success and also thanked Judges for their time to attend and judge this great event. All the judges of the day were felicitated with flower bouquets.

 

 

The singing competition was held on two venues ie.. for children it was held at Community Hall and for adults it was held at the Sabha Bhavan due to large number of participants (402) attended from 21 parishes of the diocese.

 

The completion and singing was worth a watch as all enjoyed a good quality singing from all the participants attended and judges really had a tough time to decide on winners. However, a few were excellent and following were declared as winners at the end.
