Kaup, 30 January 2011: A three year old boy dies in a accident in NH-17 at a turn near Thekalathota near Katapadi on Saturday afternoon. The boy Rigina (3) is the son of Rafique a resident of Mallar Kombugudde. In the accident Rafique and Gafoor Saheb a grocery shop owner of Kombugadde are injured.
The accident took place when a truck carrying JCB from Gujrath to Mangalore collided with a tanker carrying diesel at a turn near Thekalathota near Katapadi and the tanker hit the bike. With this impact the bike got caught under the tanker and the boy Regina fell under the tanker wheel and died on the spot said the eye witnesses to Udayavani. While the father Raffique was injured, at the same time another bike rider was thrown into the gutter and survived from serious injury.
A sharp part of the JCB which was being carried on a 22 wheeled truck, pierced through the top of the diesel tanker, hence half of the diesel from the tanker spilled off on the highway. With this accident the traffic was jammed on both sides of highway from Udyavara to Kallapu of Katpadi. Kaup Police had a tough time clearing the traffic.
Until the fire brigade came to the spot the people spread three loads of sand on the spillage to avoid any serious danger of explosion. Kaup Circle Inspector Cheluvaraju and Inspector Mohan Kottari have visited the spot. The case is registered in Kaup Police Station and investigation is in progress.
