Udupi: Swimming spree gone awry; 2 youngsters drown in Panjimar rivulet

Udupi, 11 Oct 2015: Two youngsters who have gone for a swim in a rivulet near Panjimar – Teradi, near here that comes at the limits of Shriva police station were drowned on Sunday October 11.
The deceased has been identified as nineteen-year-old Austin Alva, son of Nelson and Anita Alva, residents of Pamboor, near here and twenty-year-old Ashwin D’Souza, son of Gilbert and Gracy D’Souza couple, resident of B C Road Palke, Pamboor, near here.
Austin was studying II B Com at KVSM College, Katpady, near here, while Ashwin was studying computer after completing II PUC. Both of them along with 9 other friends have gone to swim in the rivulet at Panjimar on Sunday morning. All were bathing near the shore, while Ashwin and Austin were a little away swimming. Meanwhile, Austin swam further away and became unmovable in silt.
Shirva police and fire brigade from Udupi arrived at the spot. Despite the local swimmers tried to retrieve the bodies of Austin and Ashwin for 1 hour, all in vain. However, the local ace swimmer Dendoorkatte Ashok Shetty with the help of locals managed to retrieve the bodies.
Shirva police sub-inspector Johnson D’Souza registered a case in this regard.
