Sohar: Mangalorean Catholic Community of Sohar celebrate Monti Fest

Sohar/Oman, 12 Sep 2015: The Mangalorean community of St Anthony’s Church here celebrated the feast of the Nativity of Mother Mary on Thursday September 10.
The celebrations commenced with a rosary on Thursday at 7.35pm at the grotto of Mother Mary, followed by procession from the grotto to the church to celebrate festal Eucharistic Celebration.
Many Mangalorean families dressed in their finest attended the much-awaited Konkani Holy Mass that started at 8.30pm.
The Konkani choir led by Franky Monis presented melodious hymns. Fr Augustine in his homily explained the role of Mother Mary and stressed the importance of praying to her.
After the festal Eucharistic Celebration, Noven (blessed new paddy sheaves) was distributed to all the faithful, followed by a simple function held at the parish hall.
Richard D’Souza, president of the Mangalorean Catholic Community of Sohar (MCCS) welcomed the gathering.
Then mementos were distributed to students of Class X and Class XII who passed with distinctions. The trophies were distributed to the winners of cricket match that played between Mangalorean Challengers and Udupi Gataghars. Fr Augustine presented the trophies on the occasion.
Lancy and Marina Goveas, Darryl and Veena Fernandes, Avin, Delain and others presented melodious Konkani songs.
Fr Augustine said graces before the dinner prepared in traditional Mangalorean style. Everybody enjoyed the special vegetarian food served on banana leaves. The function was concluded with the customary Laudate sung by all those present.
