Mumbai: Konkani Community of Thane (W) celebrates Monti Fest at St Lawrence Church

Mumbai, 23 Sep 2015: In the Catholic tradition, the feast of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is traditionally celebrated as Monti Fest and a feast of family by Manglorean Catholics around the world with religious fervor. Monti Festh was celebrated with joy and vibrancy at St Lawrence Church, Wagle Estate, Thane (West) too on September 12.
The main celebrant of festal Eucharistic Celebration was Fr Hubert Goveas, assistant parish priest of St Lawrence parish.
Initiated by Fr Hubert Goveas and assisted by the Konkani Catholic Group under the guidance of parish priest Fr Jervis D’Souza.
Special mass was organized on September 12 at 5.30pm in traditional manner.600 people attended the same of all community. It was not a Mangaazlorean feast but Fr Hubert termed it as ‘Vande Matara’ which meant feast of community. There was active participation from all religious sects in various Committees.
Children were trained to walk in procession, in moves with flower baskets as followed by beautiful tradition followed by veneration of the Infant Mary. Offertory consisted of 20 items ranging from fruits to vegetable. New corn was blessed by Fr Jervis Dsouza, Parish Priest and later distributed.
Followed by Mass was the ‘Noven Jevan’ followed by entertainment programme.
500 people attended the same where the entertainment lasted for 3 hours. It was a grand celebration to be marked during the celebration of Silver Jubilee this year.

Glory to mamma Mary , the way her nativity feast was celebrated at THANE St lawrence church.
