Udupi: Talulk Panchayth and Zilla Panchayath Elections on 31st December

Udupi, 12 December 2010: Udupi Talulk Panchayth and Zilla Panchayath elections will be held on 31st December 2010 as announced by Hemalatha P. - Deputy Commissioner of Udupi, during the press conference on Friday. She also said that the counting will be on 04th January 2011. The last dates for submitting the nominations will be on 20th December and the same will be examined on 21st December. Praveen Pavar - District Executive Officer was also present in the press conference.
As per the earlier announcement, a total of 1588 EVMs will be used in Udupi district, for the first time in the TP and ZP polls. Udupi DC P Hemalatha said that additional EVMs from Delhi and Orissa states and have been tested by BHEL Engineers. Ballets on the EVMs used for ZP polls will be in pink and for TP polls it will be in white.
Out of the total 721 booths in Udupi district 321 have been identified as sensitive and another 188 as hyper sensitive booths. Out of the 25 seats of Udupi, 13 have been reserved for women. Likewise, 21 out of 41, 18 out of 35 and 10 out of 19 seats in Udupi, Kundapura and Karkala TPs respectively, have been reserved for women.
The model code of conduct has been in force since Dec 6 and it will apply to city limits too, till the end of the election process. 22 check posts and 94 mobile patrolling units have been created for conduction free and fair elections.
