Udupi: 55th Kannada Rajyotsava Celebrated, Achievers Honoured

Udupi, 01 November 2010: As entire Karnataka state celebrated Kannada Rajyotsava, the celebration was also held in Udupi. Bhuvaneshwari the patron goddess, along with various cultural tableaux brought into Mahatma Gandhi municipal ground Ajjarakadu, in a grand procession. In the procession the school children from various schools participated.
Minister of Higher Education V. S. Acharya hoisted the Kannada and National flags. He then accepted the guard of honour from the district police force, NCC and Scouts and Guides. In his address to the gathering V. S. Acharya said that the government is implementing various programs for the overall development. To promote Kannada culture various cultural programs are encouraged and undertaken. Industrial development is undertaken to provide employments for the people of Karnataka.
Distinguished personalities were honoured for their outstanding services in their respective feilds. Karnataka reigning administration conferred state Rajyotsav Awards to seven outstanding individuals from Udupi district, for their remarkable contributions or achievements in their respective field. The recipients of the state Rajyotsava award are Bhadragiri Sarvottam Das (drama), Mogaveer Yuva Sanghatane (blood donation), Bannanje Sanjeev Suvarna (Yakshagana guru), Ashwini (sports), Gopal Kharvi (swimming), Barkur Shantaram Shetty (Kambala) and Bhasker Kogga Kamath (puppet show).
Students staged various cultural programmes during the programme and entertained the large audience. Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon, Deputy Commissioner Hemalata P, Superintendent of Police Praveen Madhukar Pawar were among the dignitaries present in the occasion.
