Udupi: Plans on anvil to sort out drinking water problem in rural areas - Kota

  • The 57th Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations marked the grandeur of cultural extravaganza in Udupi on Thursday.

 

Udupi, 01 Nov 2012: Addressing the gathering after receiving the guard of honor here at Ajjarkadu district stadium, the Minster for Muzrai, Ports and Inland Water Transport Kota Srinivas Poojary said that the government has initiated a number of  programmes for the all round development of the district.

 

Rupees 2 crore is released under Natural Calamity Funds to compensate the victims of rain havoc. The third phase construction work of fisheries harbor at Malpe is under progress. The project is taken up at the cost of Rs 37.15 crore. The construction work of jetties at Kodikanyana, Gangolli and Hangarukatte are taken up on priority basis. The jetty construction work at Koderi bunder at a cost of Rs 30 crore is under progress. He added that 26,920 online applications are received for APL and BPL cards.

 

 

Elaborate plans have been chalked out to sort out drinking water problem in rural areas. A total of 817 construction works are taken up utilising Rs 33 crore. Under multi-village drinking water scheme, a proposal has been sent to the government seeking approval for eight projects in Udupi taluk, 10 projects in Kundapur taluk and 11 projects in Karkala taluk, he added.

 

Stating that Rs 5 crore has been released for road maintenance programme under Chief Minister Rural Roads Development Programme, the district in-Charge minister said that approval is given to 191 constructions works.

 

Special allocations of Rs 38 crore have been released to upgrade 265 rural stretches in the district.  Forty five footbridges are built at a cost of Rs 2 crore released under Coastal Development Authority project. As many as 2,443 houses are constructed under Basava Vasati Yojana. Around 4,957 beneficiaries are selected under the scheme for the current fiscal year. As many as 956 new houses are built under Indira Awas Yojana. Under Swarna Jayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana, the target of as many as Rs 204.51 lakhs is estimated to reach out to 144 SHGs and 72 individuals. Rupees 25 crore is released under fifth phase work of Suvarna Gramodaya Yojana. As many as 1,208 farmers’ are given away the subsidy worth Rs 30.10 lakhs under Suvarna Bhoomi Yojana.

 

The minister said that 72,845 students are given away free uniforms. Rupees 3 crore is released to provide basic infrastructural facilities at ST colonies. A total number of 803 temples are considered under District Endowment Department, of which 21 temples come under ‘A’ category and 32 temples are considered under ‘B’ category, he added.

 

Awards were conferred on the Rajyotsava award winners on the occasion.
