The foundation stone of a new auditorium in the premises of the Shri Mahalakshmi Temple at Uchchila was laid in the presence of a number of dignitaries including Lalaji R. Mendon, the MLA from the Kaup Constituency, leader of the fishermen’s community-Dr. G. Shankar, Pramod Madhwaraj, Anand C. Kunder, Bhuvanendra Kidiyoor, proprietor of the Kidiyoor Hotel.
‘E’ Kannada training workshop was held at St. Mary’s College, Shirva recently. In this workshop, the participants were instructed as to how to use the internet facility in Kannada in various internet uses and social contacts such as E-mail, website, blog, facebook, orkut, twitter. Besides these the participants were also taught how to access on line Kannada dictionary, encyclopedia, Kannada E-newspapers etc. Information about Baraha and Nudi software programmes in order to facilitate Kannda typing in computer was also given. The workshop was conducted by Satwik N.V. and Bhavani Shanker from the Mangalore University. Principal Dr. Clarence Miranda gave introductory message to the workshop and Yashodha proposed the vote of thanks.
Gurucharan of Uliyaragoli near Kaup has been making a distinct mark in the folk culture. He has set up a folk cultural group named Nityashree and has performed folk dances in different parts of the country. He has been actively involved in spreading the folk culture since fifteen years. He is the son of P. Sundar, the Deputy Thashildar of Kota and Ramani K. who is working in the District Collector’s office.
