Madikeri, 02 October 2010: In a bizarre incident, a school teacher in a private school allegedly beat up a UKG child and injured him for not repeating the mathematical table.
The government had already banned the corporal punishment in schools. However, the teacher of the ‘reputed’ private school beat the child Harabas Sheikh, son of Shabir Ahmed of Kalidas Road, severely.
Shabir Ahmed and Shekh Ajji Rashida Begum alleged that the teacher had punished Harabas for not repeating the table in the class.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Begum said that the teacher had punished his grandson on September 29. “We noticed scars on his body when he was going to take bath. When asked Harabas told us that his teacher beat him with a stick,” he added.
“When we questioned the school authority, they behaved rudely and asked us to take Harabas’s transfer certificate. We had paid all his fees properly in time. How can they punish child so cruelly for no fault of his,” he questioned.
Case registered
Begum said that a complaint was already filed at the town police station. “The police have assured to conduct inquiry into the case. They also have assured to summon the teacher and take action.
