Bangalore, 30 September 2010: In an embarrassment to the ruling BJP in Karnataka, a minister’s son and city corporator was today arrested on charges of trying to influence a witness in a case pertaining to alleged irregularities in payment of compensation to land owners by Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB).
The action against Katta Jagadish, son of IT-BT Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, came after the witness tipped off Lokayukta police that he was being pressurised not to cooperate in the ongoing investigation into the issue being conducted by the anti-corruption watchdog.
The Lokayukta police said the complainant, Ramanjanappa had informed them that he was being pestered by Jagadish, a BJP corporator from Vasanthnagar ward. When he was asked to collect an amount of Rs one lakh from Jagadish’s residence today, he alerted them and they arrested Jagadish at his office, Additional Director General of Lokayukta Police, Rupak Kumar Dutta told PTI.
Jagadish will be produced before the Special Judge Lokayukta here, he said. Lokayukta sleuths recently raided some KIADB officials for alleged irregularities in granting compensation.
