Bantwal, 27 Feb 2022: Two persons were drowned in an open quarry that is located on the boundary of Bantwal town council and Narikombu gram panchayat when they went to bathe on Saturday, February 26 evening.
The deceased were identified as forty-five-year-old Jagdish, local resident and seventeen-year-old Nidish, a native of Allipade, near here.
The fire brigade personnel and Bantwal town police arrived at the site and retrieved their dead bodies.
The locals allege that an open quarry has been operating amidst the protest as the blasts were shuttering the walls of many homes nearby. Despite the protests to shut down the quarry, the tragedy has occurred on the same quarry.
The locals demanded DK district DC and Bantwal Tahsildar to visit the spot and stayed there itself.
Bantwal town police registered a case in this regard.
Time and again, the district administration issued orders to fence the open quarries that are either operating or disused to save children and others from drowning. However, the operators are unbothered by the loss of lost human lives.
