Mangalore: Yakshagana fortnight begins

Mangalore, 21 September 2010: A fortnight of Yakshagana began at the Manjunatha temple premises at Kadri on Sunday with 15 bhagavatas (singers) presenting a music programme. Organised by Havyasi Balaga of Kadri to mark its 15th anniversary

 

 

Organised by Havyasi Balaga of Kadri to mark its 15th anniversary, the event consists of seven programmes each of talamaddale (oral form) Yakshagana bayalata (performance) from Monday.

 

The “prasangas” of talamaddale from Monday to Sunday next include Vamana, Vali, Atikaya, Taranisena, Magadha, Kaurava and Jabali.

 

The “prasangas” for stage performance are Draupadi, Vaishalini, Meenakshi, Rati, Dakshayini, Rukmini and Sridevi. All the episodes will centre around powerful mythological women characters referred in epics and puranas. One veteran Yakshagana artiste each will be felicitated from Monday.
