Mangaluru: Wenlock Hospital to reopen OPD closed during Covid-19 lockdown

Mangaluru, 27 Jun 2020: Out-patient department (OPD) will be reopened soon at state-run District Wenlock Hospital that was converted to treat Covid-19 patients during Novel Coronaviras global pandemic, said DK district-in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.
Addressing the meeting of health officials and other stakeholders at DC’s office, here on Friday, June 26, Poojary said that OPD was shuttered as Wenlock Hospital was converted exclusively to treat Covid-19 patients at the global pandemic outbreak. Meanwhile, the district administration realized that many regular out patients are facing hardships for referrals and medications. Nearly 250 patients come daily to the hospital. Actions will be taken to reopen OPD to allow at least 100 patients daily. There are 142 active Corona cases in DK district, 379 are already discharged from the hospital. Ten people have died owing to Corona. Four private hospitals and 1 government lab are testing Covid-19, said minister.
DK DC Sindhu B Rupesh said, ‘The people with Covid-19 symptoms can get admitted at private hospitals by paying their fixed charges. The people who seek treatment under Ayushman Bharat can also get treatment at private hospitals with the recommendation of health department, said DC.
District health officer (DHO) Dr Ramachandra Bayari said, ‘Many private medical college hospitals are keen to treat Covid-19 patients. About 800 beds will be made available at these private hospitals in district shortly. Besides, a few private hospitals are already treating Covid patients,’ said Dr Ramachandra.
Covid-19 cases in DK district are related to 295 people with overseas travel history and 130 with inter-state travel.
District Wenlock Hospital medical superintendent Dr Sadashiva said, 5 people are in critical condition among those who are under treatment for Covid-19 at Wenlock Hospital.
MLAs Umanat Kotian and Dr Bharat Shetty, ADC Rupa, district vigilance officer Dr Jagidsh and others were present.
