Bangalore, 03 July 2010: A Public Works Department sub-contractor K V Chikkavenkate Gowda was found unconscious with a poison bottle near him in the men’s restroom at Vidhana Soudha here on Friday.
According to the police, Chikkavenkate Gowda, a resident of Kolar, had filed a complaint with the police that Rs 15 lakh was due to him from various private contracts undertaken by him. It is learnt that Gowda had an earth mover machine and an engineer owed him Rs 15 lakh loan in connection with a building construction.
However, the engineer failed to return the loan which put Gowda in crisis.
Prasanna’s friend Suresh told Deccan Herald: “Gowda had bought a JCB lorry (earth mover machine) on loan from the Corporation Bank couple of years ago. He started excavation work on behalf of one contractor identified as Virendra Swamy. Gowda has been requesting Virendra for his due amount for the last one-and-half year.”
“The bank seized the JCB lorry last year due to the non-payment of loan. This apart, Virendra threatened him by boasting his proximity with CM Yeddyurappa,” Suresh said.
His complaints with the Whitefield and Ulsoor police did not yield any result. It is learnt that in a suicide note, he has named the persons who owe him money. He had sent a written appeal to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa in this connection. Since, he could not seek an appointment with Yeddyurappa due to the ongoing Legislature session, he tried to end his life, said the police.
A few persons who noticed him lying, alerted the police who rushed him to the hospital. His condition is said to be “serious,” police added.
