Pancha Bhootha to lord over Dieppe skies

Mangalore, 01 Sep 2012: Sebastian Jumail, Mayor of Dieppe, Francehas officially invited the city based intrepid hobby group of kite flyers - Team M angaloret o represent India at the 17 thInternational Kite Festival at Dieppe, France. The team with its versatile kite collection andm ission to spread culture through kites is all set to take off to France.T eam Mangalore is the only teamfrom India inthis 10-day festival being heldf romSeptember 8.

 

 

Kite flyers f rom over 42 countries across the globeare taking part in the event with the theme time "Five Elements".Team Mangalore will be headed by S arvesh Rao,and comprises D inesh Holla, Sathish Rao, Shashank Shetty and Pran Hegde. Team Mangalore is all set to compete with rest of the world with its new creation - Pancha Bhootha .This kite is made up of rip stop nylon fabric in Rokaku (hexagon) shaped measuring 5 feet by 4 feet.

 

In addition, the team has created a new kite ’Pakshiraja Garuda’, an applique work kite with wing spread of 18 feet and height of 9 feet. This is an art kite designed especially for the event. The team will showcase their special kites such as Yakshagana, kathakalli, Gajaraja, Charlie Chaplin, Avatar Bird, Pushpaka Vimana along with their other wide variety of kites, showcasing the cultural diversity of India in general and coastal Karnataka in specific.

 

Dinesh Holla, artist of the team will be exhibiting over 35 art work related to kites during the festival at the special exhibition stands. It may be added here that the Team had earlier been invited to similar events in France, England and Canada, winning best international kite award for its fabulous kite collections. The ’Kathakkali’ kite of has found its place as the largest Kite in India in the Limca Book of Records and will be displayed at Dieppe.

 

Recently, during April 2012, the team participated in the Italy and South Korea International kite festival. Incidentally, the kite festival in Dieppe is said to be one of the world’s 300 not to be missed events. More information about this festival is available in http://www.dieppe-cerf-volant.org. Team Mangalore has also played a pivotal role in popularising Kite Festival in the state by hosting similar events at the Panambur beach on several occasions.
