Mysore teens’ murder solved, claim police

Mysore, 21 June 2011: Police have cracked the sensational murder case of two boys from Hunsur who were kidnapped from Mysore on June 8. Police have picked up five boys and claim to have recovered the murder weapons from them and the gold chains that belonged to the victims.

 

Home Minister R Ashoka had formed a special team under Bangalore’s Joint Commissioner, Crime, Alok Kumar comprising city inspectors Ashokan, Badrinath, Balegowda and Malatesh. 

 

They had worked along with the Mysore police to nab the culprits. The police worked on a lot of evidence left behind by the accused and finally zeroed in on the five boys.

 

Police are on the lookout for three more people involved in the crime. “We have picked up the boys and questioning is on. We are reconstructing the crime scene.

It was a clear case of kidnap for ransom and somewhere along the way, the kidnappers panicked and resorted to the murder,” said a source in the investigating team.

 

In fact, the bodies of Sudheendra and Vignesh, both II BBM students of SBRR Mahajana First Grade College in Mysore, were found on June 12 on National Highway-7, near Agalagurki village in Chikkaballapur district, near Bangalore. The bodies of the victims bore multiple stab injuries and ligature marks around the neck region.

 

Sudheendra and Vignesh were abducted on June 8 the same day that Mysore was held hostage by two elephants as they were on their way to write their exams. 

 

Later that day, a police complaint was registered about the missing boys. The kidnappers called the parents of the boys using Vignesh’s mobile phone and placed the ransom demand.

 

While Sudheendra is the son of Mohan Kumar, owner of a hardware store in Hunsur, Vignesh S is the son of Srinath, a grocery shop owner in the same town.

 

Subsequently, Vignesh’s phone got switched off and the kidnappers sent the ransom note demanding Rs 5 crore to Sudheendra’s father through a KSRTC bus. Following that, the kidnappers stopped communicating.
