Mumbai, 23 June 201: Love is blind. And a woman blinded by rage after being rejected in love is worse. A Nalasopara resident had to suffer because he advised his friend to reject a marriage proposal. The girl, who was rejected, kidnapped the do-gooder’s daughter and took her to Pune, refusing to let go of her until he managed to convince his friend to marry her. She was arrested in Chinchwad on Tuesday, six days after kidnapping the child.
The woman, Chhaya Madhukar Wagchaure (24), works as a sales executive at a Vodafone gallery in Nalasopara. Here, she came in contact with Jayesh Natekar, a builder and estate agent from Nalasopara. Chhaya wanted a house on rent, and Jayesh helped her to rent a flat in Bhavesh Plaza in Nalasopara (west).
Soon, she fell in love with Jayesh and expressed her feelings to him. Jayesh consulted his best friend Jagdish Soni, a jeweller based in Nalasopara (east), who checked Chhaya’s credentials and traced her background to Pune. He found her character was unsuitable and advised Jayesh to reject her proposal. When Chhaya came to know that Jagdish had advised Jayesh to reject her proposal, she decided to avenge her insult.

Deepak Deoraj, deputy superintendent of police, Vasai Circle, said, “Chhaya was technically aware about the working of mobile networks, and would switch off the phone and not answer unlisted calls. So we convinced Jagdish to call Chhaya, and on seeing Jagdish’s number, Chhaya answered the phone.
She told Jagdish to come to Panvel to collect the girl, and then again called him to come to Borivali and kept changing destinations. She agreed to release the child if Jagdish convinced Jayesh to marry her. We told Jagdish to agree to her demand.”
Deoraj added, “We tracked her calls to Pune. So, on June 21, we told Jagdish to repeatedly call Chhaya and tell her that he was on the way to Borivali and would meet her in the evening. In the meantime, we dispatched our men to Pune as we had traced her calls to Chinchwad Chowk.”
The police found Chhaya loitering near Chinchwad Chowk, with the child. “She was talking on the phone, obviously to Jagdish, oblivious that cops were following her. My team arrested her for kidnapping and brought her back to Nalasopara on Tuesday night,” Deoraj said. Chhaya was produced before the Vasai Sessions Court on Wednesday and remanded in police custody till June 25. Deoraj said, “Chhaya was married to a Pune resident, but her marriage failed.
Then she fell in love with another man and came down to Nalasopara with him, sought a job with the Vodafone gallery and stayed in a rented flat that Jayesh helped her to get. After her lover deserted her, she fell in love with Jayesh. Jagdish’s enquiries revealed her true colours.” The child was reunited with her parents at Nalasopara police station on Tuesday evening.
