Mangaluru: Nantoor R/A on NH nightmare to motorists; 3 die in Tipper truck collision

Mangaluru, 27 Feb 2015: Three persons died and others three were injured in a ghastly road mishap at the accident prone Nantoor roundabout on NH here on Friday February 27.
The accident occurred when a tipper truck faced brake failure and hit an electric pole at Nantoor roundabout here and hit an Maruti Alto car, in which a family of 4 were travelling, and the car in turn hit a Bajaj Pulsar bike.
A man, his wife and their two children were in the car. Among them, the lady died on the spot while others sustained serious injuries.
ACP (traffic) Udaya Nayak said that forty-year-old Veena, her thirteen-year-old daughter Nitisha) and twenty-one-year-old Preetham died in the accident. Among them Veena died on the spot. Veena was teacher at a central school in Panambur here. Preetham Pinto from Kasargod was riding the bike.
Shwetha, who was riding pillion on the bike, sustained injuries to her leg.
The other two injured have been identified as Veena’s husband forty-five-year-old Krishna and their other daughter ten-year-old Nikita who were in the car.
Krishna is the headmaster of the central school at Panambur. He is hailing from Adyanadka near Vittal in Bantwal taluk and the family was staying at a quarters at Panambur. At the time of the accident, the family was travelling to their native village Adyanadka, it is learned.
The deceased Preetham Pinto was the son of Peter and Mercene Pinto, parishioners of Narampady, Badiadka in Kasargod district. He was the youngest among 3 children, and had planned to go abroad after studies. His parents were due to come on vacation on March 9.
The Alto car was totally damaged in the mishap. The tipper driver fled the scene soon after the tragedy.
A large crowd gathered and locals helped in shifting the injured to the hospital. Traffic was disrupted for sometime. Kadri traffic police registered a case in this regard and investigations are underway.
