Udupi: Shirva Parish creates history - celebrates Men’s Day

Udupi, 06 July 2014: The Catholic Sabha unit of Our Lady of Health parish, Shirva, near here celebrated Men’s Day for the first time in the history of Shirva parish on Sunday July 6. It was held as part of centenary celebration of Shirva parish.
Earlier, Shirva parish priest Fr Stany Tauro celebrated the Eucharistic Celebration along with other clergies on Sunday morning.
Over 450 men participated in the stage function held at the parish auditorium after the Holy Mass.
Mangalore south MLA J R Lobo, Mangalore diocesan pastoral council secretary advocate M P Noronha was the chief guests of the occasion.
Shirva parish Catholic Sabha spiritual director Fr Stany Tauro presided the programme.
Shirva parish Catholic Sabha president Melvyn Aranha, joint secretary Alphonso Fernandes, treasurer Stany Pinto, Shirva parish council vice president Wilson D’Souza, secretary William Machado, president-elect Leena Machado, co-ordinator Gilbert Pinto were present at the dais.
MLA Lobo was felicitated during the programme.
The senior-most parishioner Felix Nazareth was also felicitated on the same occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Lobo said that its the first time that Men’s Day was being celebrated in the history of undivided Mangalore diocese. He also emphasized the role of men in the in families and society.
Sunil Cabral and group rendered the prayer. Melvyn Aranha welcomed the gathering. Alphonso Fernandes proposed vote of thanks.
Wilson D’Souza, Sunil Cabral and Lancy Corda presented variety cultural shows as part of entertainment programme.
The programme concluded with sumptuous food.
