Mangalore: Beary Campaign essential for survival of Mother Tongue; Rahim

Mangalore, Jan 30, 2014 : The Beary community itself is disregarding their own mother tongue Beary, which could threaten its sustenance in near future. At this backdrop, there lies a greater need to begin a campaign for its survival, said central Beary Sahitya Parishat ® city unit founder president Abdul Rahim.
Abdul Rahim was speaking after inaugurating a seminar organized by central Beary Sahitya Parishat ® city unit here on Wednesday January 20.
‘Beary language has history of over 1,400 years. It survived for several centuries as it was widely spoken by the community. Meanwhile, as the new generations of Beary community are disregarding their mother tongue; its survival is in jeopardy. It would survive when the community converse in their mother tongue at home, Rahim expressed deep concern.
The central Beary Sahitya Parishat ® president B A Mohammed Hanif while speaking on the topic, ‘how to develop Beary literature?’ said that it has written literature and oral, pure and classical literature, while the culmination of both would facilitate better literature. There lies the need to give academic shape to the literature, by improving on criticisms and disciplined literature, said Mohammed Hanif.
The writer Ismat Fajir while speaking on the topic, ‘Dr Susheela Upadhyaya’s contributions to Beary literature,’ said, ‘Susheela was indeed deeply concerned about the survival of Beary language. Had these kinds of seminars were held during her lifetime, she would have been much happier,’ said Ismat.
The litterateur U A Kassim Ullal, coastal musicians Federation secretary Mohammed Iqbal Katipalla, poet Mahesh Nayak shared their views.
Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy former president M B Abdul Rehman presided the programme.
Kannada Sahitya Parishat former president Harikrishna Punaroor, Beary Sahitya Academy registrar Umarabba was the chief guests present.
Sharif Nirmunje sang the slogan song. Nazeer Ullal welcomed the gathering. Yousuf compered the programme.
The condolences were offered to the repose of researcher the late Dr Susheela Upadhyaya.
