Mumbai: Dahi Handi Celebrations mark Krishna Janmastami across Metro

Mumbai, 29 Aug 2013: The celebration of Krishna Janmastami was held with utmost reverence across the metro on Thursday August 29.  The world famous ‘Dahi Handi’ breaking the pot full of yoghurt was held with singing and dancing on the occasion.

 

The leaders of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Congress (I), Shiv Sena, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), RPI and other parties celebrated Krishna Janmastami in their respective constituencies.  The cash money of over a few lac of rupees and attractive prizes were hidden in ‘Dahi Handi’ with a clarion call to try their luck.  A few innovative minds also stuffed onion as prize in ‘Dahi Handi’ to depict souring prices of onions.

 

 

It’s significant that a few women groups were most successful in their attempts at ‘Dahi Handi’ that were tied high above between two skyscrapers and bagged a few lac of rupees as prize money.

 

The kids donned costumes of Radha and Krishna, while a few national leaders and bollywood celebrities also partaken in mesmerizing dances.

 

 

The Dahi Handi regulars - Babu Jenu Mandi Mandal, Dagdu Shet Mandal and Hutatma Babu Mandal staged shows with innovations.

 

The people celebrated the festivities at Dadar market, Parel with pomp and gaiety on the occasion.
