Udupi, 05 August 2010: Sea erosion on the Mattu Padukare coast has taken a toll on a concrete road on Wednesday evening. Over 100 meters of road built by the fisheries department has been cut off after the sea erosion prompted the concrete road to cave in. Though the fisheries department poured in huge stones to the sea wall to save the road from being washed away, they could hardly do anything to reduce the impact of the sea erosion on the road.
Executive Engineer of Fisheries Department TS Rathod who visited the spot said the stones had been put as an emergency measure on the verbal instructions from the Deputy Commissioner. Udupi Tahasildar Prasanna and other officials have also assessed the damage to the road and sent a report to the government.
