Mangalore 02 August 2010: The new terminal of Mangalore Airport became operational on Monday, August 2. The new terminal building that was inaugurated on May 15, was abuzz with people on Monday. Scenes of flights taking off and landing that were associated with the old terminal building at Bajpe, were today witnessed at the new terminal.
The travellers, felt the new terminal is the better than the previous one. “This is on par with other international terminals. Quite impressive”, one passenger said. However, there were a few others who don’t seem to have been impressed by the new terminal much. “I still feel the old terminal was better. The timings are not proper. No seating arrangement is there and the visitors have to wait outside. Besides, the amount being charged to enter inside is Rs 45”, said a passenger.
However, an airport official said that seating arrangements outside would create a nuisance and also result in a blockade. “We feel for our passengers but in the best interest of all, these steps are a must”, he said. There were a few who were seen complaining about lack of people to familiarize them with the new terminal as they encountered a fair bit of confusion owing to the new arrangements.
Speaking to mediapersons M R Vasudeva, Airport Director, Mangalore, said that the new terminal has been for the benefit of the passengers. “Factors like ambience and beatification of the set up have been kept in mind. 6 parking stands, separate security clearance and facilities for domestic and International passengers, 7 escalators and elevators, in-line conveyor belts for luggage clearance, and central air condition system have been provided for the benefit of the passengers”, he informed.
“We have provided facilities like restaurants, food and sweet stalls, and duty free shops for international passengers. Besides, Customs and Immigration departments will function on a requirement basis”, Vasudeva said. He also informed that the new terminal will be on a trial mode for about 15 days and that the old terminal would continue to be used.

We should forget about the plane crash which was unfortunate and support the aviation industry to enable them to perform better. Because our negative attitude will pull them back into defensive and we all move only backward. |
