Udupi: Indian Red Cross Observes World Blood Donation Day

Udupi, 17 Jun 2013: The district unit of Indian Red Cross (IRC) observed World Blood Donation Day at Red Cross Building, here on Sunday June 16.
Manipal – KMC Hospital senior surgeon Dr Bhaskaranand Kumar inaugurated the programme here on Sunday morning.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bhaskaranand said that voluntary donating blood is greatest deed. One has to screen the samples of donors to avoid contacting dreaded diseases in the future, cautioned Dr Bhaskaranand.
‘The need for blood has increased due to rise in accidents. If the accidents are controlled the number of injured also will be reduced. The demand for blood will also be reduced. Meanwhile, if the awareness is created among the students on the importance of donating blood and avoid accidents, the issue can be solved to greater extent,’ said Dr Bhaskaranand.
The blood donors who donated their blood over 25 times – K Manjunat, Devdas Patkar, Vishu Shetty, Soori, Abdul Rashid, Roopa Ballal and Chandrahas D Prabhu were felicitated during the programme.
Karnataka state Red Cross Society speaker Basroor Rajeev Shetty presided the programme.
Udupi – Indian Medical Association president Dr Ashok Kumar Y G, Lions district governor Dr Madhusudan Hegde were the chief guests present at the dais.
