Udupi: Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake Visits Sea-erosion Prone Areas across District

Udupi, 16 Jun 2013: The permanent remedy will be found for sea-erosion that has been threatening the coastal district on every monsoon.  Meanwhile, as the monsoon has already set in temporary measures will be undertaken to combat the sea-erosion in most threatening areas across the cost, said state urban and Udupi district-in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake.


Addressing the media persons after viewing the acute sea-erosion areas of Tenka Yermal in Padubidri, Padukare and Kanakoda area of Udyavar, here on Saturday June 15 evening, minister Sorake said that  Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan of Rs 192 crore for finding permanent solution to sea-erosion.  A project has been already readied to solve sea-erosion issue with the aid of ADB, while on the first phase the works are under way in Ullal, at the limits of Mangalore taluk, said minister Sorake.
Minister Sorake further said that as a temporary measure boulders are laid wherever the threat of sea-erosion on private properties and plantations, access roads across Udupi district.  A proposal has been handed over to CM Siddaramaiah to approve Rs 10 crore in this regard.  He has already written a letter to CM in this regard.  The port ministeralso plead CM.  The proposal is likely to be approved in the next cabinet meeting, said minister Sorake.

 


Padukare region of Udyavar along Arabian Sea is facing acute sea erosion since the past 3 years, while the precautionary measures to protect the access roads, electricity network and houses will be taken from Sunday June 16 by laying the boulders, added minister Sorake.


‘Building sea wall is also an effective measure to combat the sea erosion, which is successful in Mangalore and Malpe ports.  The state administration will be convinced with this solution,’ said minister Sorake.


The minister Sorake was accompanied by DC Dr M T Reju, ports and fisheries department executive engineer Rathod, Tahsildar Abhijin, ZP member Divakar Kundar, the members of local gram panchayats and villagers were present at the occasion.
