Udupi, 31 May 31: Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel welcomed the move of the newly-formed Karnataka government in banning gutka but not at the cost of areca growers.
Addressing the media persons at BJP office here on Thursday May 30, MP Nalin said that the former CM Jagdish Shettar of BJP led state government that is now defunct supported the areca growers with a special package. However, the Congress led state government has been playing on the lives of majority of areca growers across the state by banning gutka, alleged MP Nalin.
‘We are not against gutka ban that will have serious consequences on areca growers since their farm produce of areca nuts goes in making gutka. The state administration had to find an alternative and award compensation to the areca growers who will face direct consequences from banning gutka,’ said MP Nalin.
The issues of cow slaughter, cheap liquor and taking over administration of Sri Krishna mutt:
The state administration has been trying to hurt the religious feelings of majority of Hindus and farmers, because it is in favour of withdrawing anti-cow slaughter Bill. CM Siddaramaiahhas proposed to supply cheap liquor instead of banning liquor and tobacco products that is a major health concern, said MP Nalin.
The state government move to take over the administration of Krishna mutt, Udupi and Gokarna temple, indeed caused anguish among the majority of Hindus, added MP Nalin.
MP Nalin urged the newly-elected Member of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and ministers of coastal district origin to stage struggle disregarding party politics against the state taking over the administration of major worship centers.
The former religious endowment minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC Monappa Bhandary was present at the press meet.
