Udupi: Poll Result of 5 Constituencies in Udupi District

Udupi, 9 May 2013: The pre-poll of media has proved in this assembly election and as forecasted BJP faced utter defeat in Udupi district.  Congress has managed to get back its strong fortress of Udupi since the past 4 decades.

 
BJP won only in Karkal among 5 legislative constituencies of Udupi district.  Halady Srinivas Shetty, the independent candidate who deserted BJP contested in Kundapur legislative constituency won with huge margin.  Congress has won in both Udupi, Kaup and Byndoor.

 
None of the sitting-MLAs of Udupi district are re-elected except Halady Srinivas Shetty who resigned to his post of MLA about 2 years ago.  The sitting-MLAs K Raghupati Bhat of Udupi and K Laxminarayan of Byndoor were not issued tickets to contest the elections by BJP, instead issued tickets to others.  BJP sitting-MLA Lalaji R Mendon of Kaup and Congress sitting-MLA H Gopal Bhandary of Karkal faced defeat.

 
Halady Srinivas Shetty was most certain to win.  He has won with a margin of 40,611 votes.  Congress has to be satisfied with second place and BJP scooped to third place.

 
It’s a surprising development wherein Congress candidate Vinay Kumar Sorake whose candidature was allowed at the last moment and contested from Kaup won with a margin of 1,853 votes.

 
The forecast of whoever wins in Karkal among Congress and BJP candidates in Karkal, it would be with a margin of 4,000 votes.  It has come true with BJP’s candidate Sunil Kumar who won with 4,274 votes.

 
Congress candidate Pramod Madwaraj who contested from Udupi, proved his statement that he would win with a record margin.  He won with a margin of 39,524 votes.
