Udupi, 7 Apr 2013: "Congress may be prepared for the upcoming Assembly elections but they have lots of internal problems. All their people want to be candidates for their constituencies. This will definitely affect them adversely and prove to be their undoing," said former chief minister and BJP national vice-president D V Sadananda Gowda.
He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a BJP workers’ convention held at Shesha Shayana Hall, Hotel Kediyoor here on Sunday April 7.
On BJP’s own controversies, he took an indirect jibe at B S Yeddyurappa and said, "BJP was mired in controversies before, but now everything has been sorted out. The BJP is completely changed now. There is no corruption and no illegalities. We are a good, developed party, and there is no doubt about BJP’s victory in the coming polls.
"BJP has a clean image now - there is no corruption, no denotification and no partiality. We are determined to fight the elections unitedly," he added.
Commenting on the opposition, he said, "Congress and JD(S) are getting weaker, and the worst part is that they are targetting BJP and speaking bad about it. Putting down BJP to show themselves as better is not the right approach in politics. They should work hard and prove their worth to the people and not talk about us.
"BJP on the other hand is highly united. We never put others down. We have development to show to the people. We will work hard and with the support of party workers we will definitely win," he said.
"Karnataka is in third place in terms of development. We will render more social service and ensure justice to people," he said.
When mediapersons asked him about exodus of several leaders from the party, he said, "It is true that BJP leaders are leaving the party, but ours is a big party and we have people who have served with dedication from many years. We are strong. Our decision on selecting candidates was unanimous, unlike Congress which is facing a lot of problems. It will prove them costly."
During the stage programme too DVS reiterated the above statements and emphasized that BJP is rejuvenated and will definitely win the elections.
MLA Raghupati Bhat who seemed to be still nursing the injury caused due to the leakage of the sleaze CD recently, said that Congress is known for doing drama and while it used the infamous Malpe rave party as an election issue previously, it has now resorted to use the CD issue.
"They (Congress) have now interfered with my personal life and are making an election issue out of it," he said.
He, however, clarified, "I am not saying that JD(S) or Congress have a hand in the CD issue. It was a conspiracy by some of my rivals but the political parties are taking undue advantage of it. They should not make it an election issue."
On BJP’s candidate Sudhakar Shetty, he said, "Sudhakar Shetty’s name was recommended by me - he is my candidate and if he wins, it means I have won."
He urged the workers to do their maximum so that those who think he has lost would be taught a lesson by BJP’s win.
Sudhakar shetty, Udayakumar Shetty, Upendra Nayak, Vilas Nayak, Yashpal Suvarna and others were present.
