Udupi: Thieves loot diamonds, gold worth Rs 8.5 lac from doctor’s house

Udupi, 25 Feb 2013: Thieves broke into the house owned by Dr P Ravindranatha Shetty in Moodabettu, Shankerpura here between February 24, 3.45pm to February 25 morning, and decamped with jewellery worth about Rs. 8.5 lakhs.
Dr P Ravindranath had left home on 24 Feb around 3.45 pm and returned on 25 Feb around 8.45 am, and during this period robbers had broke into his house and made away with jewellery and cash. 25 Karat gold ornaments which included a necklace. 2 diamond bangles worth Rs 8.5 lakhs, and also Rs 81,000 in cash was stolen.
On receiving information, police officials from Kaup police station rushed to the spot, along with fingerprint experts from Udupi as well as canine squad.
Police lament that in spite of their repeated appeal to the public to be careful about the costly belongings such as gold ornaments, people have been taking their warnings very lightly. The police have been educating people about the danger of exhibiting and keeping large amount of gold at home and leaving the house unguarded. In spite of the incidents of chain snatching and robberies, people are yet to awake to the seriousness of these problems.
A case has been registered in Kaup Police station.
