Bunts U.A.E. and Abu Dhabi K S lifts the prestigious K S Shetty memorial throw ball trophy

Abu Dhabi, 26 Jan 2013: In a most exiting and neck-to-neck fought electrifying matches U.A.E bunts managed to lift the Ladies Throw ball Trophy beating the Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha in straight sets while Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha lifted the prestigious Mens Throw ball trophy in a style by beating their rivals U.A.E bunts in third set.   Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha Ladies managed to win the runners trophie and U.A.E. Bunts men got the mens runners up trophy.

 

The Inaugural of the tournament began at 9.30am. Regular eight teams took part in the 24th Koosamma Shetty Memorial Throwball Tournament; namely Mangalore Konkans, Abudhabi Karnataka Sangha, Bunts Dubai, Konkans Dubai, Mogaveers UAE, KCO, Pacific stars, SMMKC Sharjah in both men and women category.

 

Sarvotham Shetty (President Karnataka Sangha welcome the participants and guests and began the proceedings with introductory speech. This is 24th year of the said tournament and B R Shetty started this tournament in his mother’ s memorial and Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha is taking responsibility to organize this tournament every year.

 

On dais, Dr. B R Shetty, his wife, Mr. V.K. Mathu; Governor Abu Dhabi Indian School , Principal and vice Principal, Mr. Shekar Shetty, Mr. Keshav Koteshwar, Mr. Leo Rodrigues were present.  Mr. V.K. Mathu spoke on this occasion and highlithted the important of organizing tournaments and wished all participants success. Padmashree Dr. B R Shetty in his speech, highlighted importance and role of mother in every individual’s life and he is very pleased to organize this Throw Ball tournament in his mother’s memorial.  He also said all participants should play the matches in the spirit of sportsmanship.

The tournament was officially opened by releasing balloons in the air by all captains of ladies team. Photo session of the participating teams took place soon after the inauguration .The teams then were divided into two pools and matches played on league basis. Top two teams in each category qualified into semifinals.  After the initial competitive matches, Mangalore Konkans, Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, U.A.E. Bunts, Dubai Konkans and Mogaveers Dubai managed to reach semi-finals.  However, Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha and U.A.E Bunts eliminated the remaining teams in both categories and reached the finals.

 

 

Breakfast and lunch was organized for team members and supporters as well as for the spectators. All the league matches were concluded before the lunch and afternoon semi finals & finals were played.

In a very tight fought womens throw ball match U.A.E. Bunts finally managed to over come fierce Karnataka Sangha team.  But most exiting and electrifying was the match Mens Throw ball tournament between U.A.E. Bunts and Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha.  U.A.E bunts managed to beat Abu Dhabi K.S. in the first set by 21-14 but Karnataka Sangha fought back and eventually won both sets beating U.A.E. Bunts by 21-18 & 21-19.

The winning trophies were distributed by Dr. B.R. Shetty to the winning captains and players.  Mr. Sarvotham Shetty carried out the concluding ceremony and vote of thanks wherein he thanked each and every participant, media persons, ADIS staff, Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha committee members and also all referees and especially Ms. Anett Menezes for referring the finals mens throw ball tournament and appreciated her for controlling the game and esp. controlling the men on fire.

 

 

Dr. B.R. Shetty also spoke on the occasion and congratulated all the winners and also thanked all the participants for taking part in this prestigious tournament being in memory of his late mother Koosamma Shetty.
