Kundapura,19 August2012: “Today, we are enjoying the fruits of the sacrifices made by innumerable nationalists. But, because of the selfishness and self-centeredness of some people the meaning of the sacredness of freedom has been lost. Today, if only institutions like the “Divine Park” which unselfishly works for the amelioration of mankind’s sufferings and the like minded people were in New Delhi the dreams of the freedom fighters would have been a reality”, declared noted singer Padma Bhushan Dr S. P. Balasubramanyam. He was speaking on the occasion of the 66th Independent Day celebrations and the release of the “Viveka Sampada” quarterly magazine’s “Navaratri” issue organized by the Saligrama Divine Park Institution “Salute the Nation” event. He also released the English language publication of “Viveka Veena”.

Udupi District in-charge minister Kota Shrinivas Poojary, on behalf of Divine Park Trust and scores of admirers, conferred on Dr Balasubramanyam the title “Nada Nethara”. Divine Park trustee K. G. Carisiddappa and B. Sripathy Somayaji jointly felicitated minister Poojary.

“Due to modern scientific progress conflicts have increased and human efforts have decreased. Film music has become meaningless and without soul like the plastic. Earlier, the composer used to keep in mind the listener and the literature and compose the songs which when sung would arouse the emotions in listeners and were pleasing to the ears. Today, the loud noise of the instruments is called music and the modern youth are carried away by it. They have become the slaves of modern technology and lost their way”, rued Dr Balasubramanyam.

He further jokingly and in a lighter vein said that he wanted to become an engineer but became a heart throb of innumerous music lovers for which he expressed his gratitude to them. Today, every instrument has a remote control; even then people depend upon someone else to hand over that remote to them. People should get out of this lethargy and dependence and try to make use of their own energy, advised Dr S.P.Balasubramaniam.

He kept the audience spell bound by singing old film songs which imparted family and social values. He was ably supported by well known singers like Shrinivas, Archana Udupa, Rajani, Archana Ravi etc.
Executive editor Dr A. Chandrashekar Udupa wished Dr Balasubramanyam long life and a very fruitful carrier in music so that he might entertain the audience for a long time. The singers were well supported by a group of internationally well known instrumentalists.
