Mangalore, 08 July 2012:‘ May it be poetry or painting , no clear definition is available. Painting unlike photography an art of expressions Poetry and Paintings , both as form of creative expression compliment each other some times overlaps each other. Just like the Sunrise , in the morning it looks Like a beautiful painting and in the evening like a poem.” said Gulzar, Poet, Lyricist and filmmaker.
He was speaking after inaugurating Solo Painting Exhibition “Rendezvous With Feminine” by Wilson JP D’Souza, at Orchid Art Gallery, Balmatta , Mangalore, in the morning of Sunday, July 8, 2012.
He further said, Though I am not a learned man to analyze art and paintings, looking at these paintings by Wilson, I can say with confidence that Wilson is an great artist and he will definitely make a headway. Gulzar wished Wilson J P a great art career ahead.
Welcoming Gulzar , Wiliam Pais, Director of Orchid Art Gallery said that he felt as if the Prime Minister of India visited his art gallery. Indeed Gulzar is the prime minister of poetry and pride of India.
Art expert, author and poet Ms. Giselle D Mehta spoke about art in general and particularly in reference to Wilson’s paintings. She recalled, though she has not met Wilson so far till this day, her words and Wilson’s paintings converge in unconscious synergy. This is the reason she declined cover design sent by the publishers and opted for Wilson’s painting for the cover jacket of her first novel “Blossom Showers”. Ms Mehta further said that an attractive cover jacket is always a must to catch the eyeballs of the readers as the reader goes through the content later.
Ms Mehta, said the subject of Wilson’s Solo exhibition, “Rendezvous With Feminine” - is great and in the west and even in India great painters like Raja Ravi Verma dealt with these subjects. Wilson’s paintings approach womanhood in a bold and unique style and explore inner self of women and depict them in colors effectively. These paintings speak far ahead of the figures. Most of Wilson’s paintings empathize with marginalized women.
Ms Mehta further said that every painter should have the capacity to see beyond the surface and this is called third eye. Pointing the particular painting of women bathing in the river in the afternoon – Ms Mehta said, Women and River both are sacred and Goddesses in our country. Both are natures. Both are Life. So they embody and blend in each other very well. This particular painting, Women bathing in the river in the afternoon - is all about life giving spirit and my favorite. She further said that the figures in Wilson’s painting express multiplicity of ideas as well as unsaid bondage of women too.
Artist Wilson J P, thanked Gulzar, Ms Giselle D Mehta, and the gathering and gifted Gulzar an painting - Musical Women.
Wilsons Mother, Mrs Juliana D Souza was also present on this occasion.
