Mangalore: State Govt sanctions funds for foot-bridges in DK and Udupi Districts

Mangalore, 28 Jun 2012: Speaking at a press conference in Mangalore on Thursday June 28, 2012, Chairman of Coastal Development Authority, Nagaraj Shetty said that the state government has sanctioned five crores of rupees for the construction of foot bridges in three coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada.
Nagaraja Shetty further informed that according to a report prepared during 2010-11 a provision was made for the construction of 430 footbridges in the three coastal districts. He informed that D V Sadananda Gowda, the Chief Minister of Karnataka has approved five crores of rupees for the construction of 142 footbridges in Dakshina Kannada and 45 in Udupi. The Zilla Panchayats are authorized to oversee the construction of these footbridges.
Speaking to the press reporters further, Nagaraja Shetty said that the Coastal Development Authority with financial assistance from the state government is constructing ten fish markets, out of which, work on eight has been completed. A connecting road has also been planned from fisheries in Talapady to Karwar. A two-lane concrete road plan has been put forth and the final fiscal report has been prepared.
