Mangalore, 23 May 2012: After months of pursuing one cause, that is to make the road safe for vehicular and pedestrian movement, the residents of 4th Cross Shivabagh can now breathe a sigh of relief. Thanks to Pavithra Contractor and the Corporator of the ward, Mrs. Gretta Rebello for hearing the cries of the residents and speeding up the process to get the road work done. The stretch of road for the 4th Cross is 280 mts in length and 3.80 mts in width; it begins with the residence of Mr.N.V.Hegde, Chairman of the NITTE Institutes and ends at Budget House.

Residents of 4th Cross recall, how much time, weeks, months and years they took to take the proposal of building good infrastructure forward for this area. They had staged protests in the past, to which the Corporator promised to have a resolution in a week’s time. The promise of one week took a whole one year to be realized.

Shivabagh is a posh location of Mangalore with many NRI’s and well to do locals living in this area, yet in spite of it being posh, and higher taxes than other areas, being paid by residents, the infrastructure was poor and neglected for 10 years by authorities. There is no proper sanitation, and drainage system, and with the onset of monsoon season, it makes it worse for people to walk this path. There are no proper street lights in the area and this makes it very difficult to travel or walk on the road during night time.

After much delay the work is finished. The residents of 4th Cross Shivabagh are immensely grateful to the contractor and Mrs. Gretta Rebello the Corporator of the ward. And they look forward to the remaining areas under the Shivabagh umbrella be properly maintained soon.

This is indeed a relief for all of us, I hope authorities do not neglect other areas of Shivabagh which are also in need of such roads. Old people are suffering with back pain with improper roads and lots of pot holes along the path. I hope the corporator concretes the entire road.
