Bahrain, 18 April 2012: The Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) and Gulf Air bring us the Bahrain Grand Prix 2012, scheduled to take place between the 20th and the 22nd April, when for one weekend, Bahrain becomes the focal point of sporting world.
There really are no words to describe how relieved the FI fans all over the world and in Bahrain that the Formula 1 is back in Bahrain this year. Most of them bought the tickets in advance in 2011 and being thoroughly disappointed not being able to see the race that thousands of people and fellow petrol heads had been looking forward to.
It is so true that sport bring people together and people living here in Bahrain should feel privileged that they are hosting such global event. Hopefully it will promote a positive message of unity and peace in Bahrain and bring back the tourism in the Kingdom that we so desperately need.
It will be the eight running of the event which eagerly anticipated by hundreds of thousands of racing fans following the cancellation of events last year due to unrest. It forms the fourth round of the record breaking 20-race calendar making up this year’s FIA Formula One World Championship. The 63rd. season of championships, races began in Australia on 18th March and are due to end in Brazil on 25th November.
At 6.3 km, Bahrain is the second longest track on the 2012 FI calendar after the 7 km Spa-Franco champs Circuit. Twelve teams and 24 drivers will be competing in this year’s event, and has previously been won twice by Filipe Massa, and three times by Fernando Alonso who took victory during the last 2010 Grand Prix. To date the best lap was recorded in 2004 by Michael Schumacher for Ferrari at 1’30’’252.
Throughout the three-day race weekend, there is a plethora of activities taking place off the track as well.
