Udupi: Villagers protest on stoppage of water supply

Udupi, 09 April 2012: Opposing the stoppage of water supply by the Municipality to the 150 houses of Laxminagara of Tenkanidiyoor Grama, the villagers conducted protest in front of the Municipal Office on Saturday. In the Grama Pachayath, Congress was running the administration. The next day of the declaration of the election results of the recent by election the water supply is stopped. Grama Panchayath President Yatish Karkera has accused that the BJP which is running the Municipality is taking the revenge for losing the election. Replying to this Municipal President Kiran Kumar has clarified that the Tenkanur Grama Panchayath has not paid the outstanding water bills of rupees 13 lakhs and for this reason the water supply has been stopped.

 

 

 
But in 2008 itself the water supply has been started to Laxminagara. Form that time until 2010 BJP was running the administration in this Grama Panchayath. Until that time BJP administration has a outstanding bill of rupees 8 lakhs. But now after the Congress running the administration of the Grama Panchayath for the sake of the old dues with a political reason, the water supply has been stopped, said Grama Panchayath President Yatish Karkera and other congress leaders addressing the protesters.

 
We are not asking for the supply of water to the entire Grama. We are only asking for the supply of water to the 150 houses. Grama Panchayath is going to arrange the supply of water to these houses and for that a separate project with a cost of rupees 14 lakhs by Jilla Panchayath is in progress. But until then suddenly stopping the water and punishing the people is unfair. The water has to be supplied immediately or else more serious protest will be conducted, said Congress leader Ramesh.

 
After the protest a petition was submitted to the Officers of Municipality. On this occasion Congress leaders Janardhana Bhandarkar, Amrat Shenoy, Ramesh Kanchan and Sulochana Damodar were present.
