Udupi, 07 April 2012: Eventhough many politicians who born in backward communities took advantage of the reservation and are elevated to higher positions, but are not doing any work for their community, said Udupi MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat. He was speaking in his presidential address in the 105th birthday celebration of Green Revolutionery, Babu Jagajeevan Ram.
Babu Jagajeevan Ram and Dr. Ambedkar, though they were born in backward communities, they did not have any advantage of the reservation at that time. In those days the backward communities were exploited and also there were no education opportunities. But their achievement at that time is remembered even today. The exploitation still exists now, but there are opportunities available today. Using them there are many people raised to higher positions. But they are not looking back and are not bothered for their people, he said.
Just getting financially sound is not enough, they should have confidence and for that education is required. In olden days Babu Jagajeevan Ram and Ambedkar had education and if there is any respect and position for the community today, it is because of them, he said.
The program was inaugurated by Jilla Panchayath President Katapadi Shankara Poojary. He said that, Jagajeevan Ram is a role model for today’s politicians. If the politicians follow their path, there will be vast changes in the society, he said.
