Konkani Poetry Session ’ Kavanmrut’ at Kundapur

Kundapur, 26 March 2012: Konkani poetry reading session ‘Kavanamrut’ was held here in Kundarpura Narayana Guru Complex Kshemadhama on 24th March 2012 in association with Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Mangalore.
Mr K Umesh Pai, Chief Manager Canara Bank Kundapura said ‘The language is independent of script; script is only for the development of the language, even crows have their own language, on a single call of a crow other crows gather. We should love our mother tongue because we have got it from our ancestors’. He was inaugurating the session.
Presiding over the session, President of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Mangalore Kasaragodu Chinna said ‘Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy is working towards the betterment of the language. As a result we are able to conduct this poetry session in Cultural City Kundapura. I wish this session all the best’. Chief Guests Magician Om Ganesh, businessman Ashok Shet, Vinay Pais, President of Kundapura Patrakartara Sangha spoke on the occasion and wished the poets all the best.
During the occasion, Kasaragodu Chinna along with other dignitaries felicitated Central Sahitya Academy award winner Melvyn Rodrigues with shawl, garland and fruits.
After that poetry reading session was conducted. This was presided over by Central Sahitya Academy award winner Melvyn Rodrigues. Poets Bernard J Costa - Kundapura, Swathi Shet - Kundapura, Ramananda Kamath - Kodi, Jnanadev Malya - Manipal, Jaywant Pai – Padubidri, Leena Tauro – Hangalur, Dr Nagesh Kumar G Rao – Manipal, Narmada Prabhu – Thekkatte, Keshav Pai – Gangolli, Sharel D’Souza – Sastan and N Shreesha – Udupi presented their poems in the session. The poetry reading session was successful as the audience liked the all the poems. Melvyn Rodrigues read his poem and an evaluation was carried out on the poem. Speaking during the occasion, Melvyn Rodrigues said ‘To write good poems a person should be good within and poems are born in silence’ and he read two of his poems.
In the end, the compere of the session and the main co-ordinator of the program Mr U S Shenoy was felicitated on behalf of the Academy.
