Udupi: People take holy bath in Malpe beach on the occasion of Yellamavasya

Udupi, 24 December 2011: On the occasion of the Yellamavasya, a large number of devotees took bath at the Malpe beach on Saturday, December 24, 2011. The district administration had taken all precautions for the safety of the women during this occasion.
There is a belief among the people that by taking bath in the sea on Yellamavasya, their sins would be washed away and they will be spared from adversities. As a result Shani god is also propitiated at the beach with different offerings. It is a rare coincidence that this year the Yellamavasya fell on Saturday itself.
The sea batch had started early in the morning at 2 am and continued till 12 noon. According to tradition, people after taking bath at the Malpe beach proceed too Vadabhandeshawara temple to offer prayers to god Balaram.
In order to prevent any untoward incident, this year Coast Guard along with the police boats kept a watch on the situation. Similarly there was tight security by the police in order to prevent theft of clothes and jewellery. The district administration had made sufficient arrangements for the women to change their clothes.
Like in the beach of Malpe, people also took sea bath at Gangolli, Kundapura, Hejmadi, Padubidri and other coastal places.
It is a good act of faith to purify oneself by dipping in the Sea. it is said and also believed that water is the purifier and water is used inall ceremonies and functions and occasions with the same sactity of purification. Taking bath in Sea once a year atleast is good for health also and with a feeling of Holy dip to purify the sins. It is a good sign that Lots of people have taken this accasion for purify from their papas, good sign .May God bless them all with forgiveness from their sins/papam.
