It may be recalled here that the Diocese of Mangalore was erected as an independent diocese by Pope Leo XIII on September 1, 1886 with the then Apostolic Vicar of Mangalore-Rev. Nicholas Maria Pagani as the first bishop of the new diocese. During the last 125 years, the achievements of the Diocese of Mangalore have been phenomenal. Along with Apostolic Nuncio and Archbishops, the diocese has produced 41 Bishops and thousands of priests, nuns and other religious who have been rendering service in different parts of India and the world. A number of Christians have risen to important position in politics, business and government service.
Nice to see the devotion of holy cross. May god bless all of us.
To to see dedication and devotion from our parishioners, the time has come to establish a new Udupi Diocese. I am sure by way of this expansion of new diocese the people of Udupi dist. will benefit and easily put in their creative ideas for good use without wasting time and energy by travelling to fro Mangalore. Good luck for the future.
Thanks Eugine bab for the detailed report and great devotional ceremony pics. It is indeed a great moment of joy and happiness to celebrate 125 years existance of Mangalore Diocese. at the same time I believe it is time to have an addlitional diocese for Udupi area as after 125 years there has been tremendous growth in our area, particularly, Udupi, Belle, Karkal, Shirva, Pangla, Kalyanpur, Kundapur to name a few.. Mangalore diocese has produced thousands of priests, a few bishops and nuns and I am sure most of them are from udupi area. It is my personal opinion...to have a separate Udupi diocese...
