Belman: Primary health center organizes Seemanta to Women

Belman, 05 October 2011: Organizations organized a unique traditional Seemanta (Baby Shower) for the 18 pregnant women at Belman Primary Health Centre. They were given Arashina Kunkuma, Saubhagya dravya, Pushpadharane, sweets and momento and were lit with Arathi singing Shobana songs by the ladies; Baby, Sheela Prakashathma, Kalavathi, Lioness President Gretta D’Souza and Kalpana Nayak. They wished them to have children like Shrikrishna, Balarama, Lava-Kusha and conducted the group Seemanta program along with many women attendees in a most significant way.

 


 
Baby Shower is called by different names in different places as per the tradition. In Karnataka it is called as Seemanta and is held when the woman is in her 5th or 7th or 9th months of pregnancy. There is music played, and the expecting mother is decked in traditional attire with lots of flowers. There are blessings showered on them by the elderly ladies from the household and community. There are gifts given to the expecting mother. It is a very affectionate and fun-filled event for most of the expecting mothers since they are on the threshold of motherhood and entering a new life.
 
The event was hosted by Belman Grama Panchayath President Mallika Rao Paurohithya, International Service Organizations Belman Lions, Lionesses and JCI. Primary Health Centre Medical Officer Dr. Sathish provided guidance. Health Assistant D.T. Patigar compeered the event. Belman Grama Panchayath Vice President Jerald D’Souza, JCI President Sathish Kotyan, Lion Mukunda Kamath, Asha worker Pushpa, Grma Panchayath Member Shankar Kunder Sooda, Geetha Prabhu, Community Education Center’s leaders, Anganavadi, Asha workers and the leaders of the village were the witness to this rare event.
 
On this occasion community Health Day celebration was initiated by lighting the lamp by Lion N.M. Hegde. People were provided with the health information and information about the various free facilities available to them. Prashanth Kumar proposed vote of thanks.
