“Money can buy medicines, but it cannot purchase health”-Dr. Mohammed Rafik

Moodubelle, 02 october 2011: Dr. Mohammed Rafiq, Managing Director of Thonse Health Centre, speaking as the resource person at the meeting of the Lions Club of Moodubelle on Saturday, October 1, 2011, said that most of the diseases and ailments of modern times are greatly due to the change in lifestyle. He pointed out that nowadays people do have money so that they can purchase medicines and get admitted to hospitals for any illness. With money one can buy medicines and hospital facilities, but cannot purchase health.
Speaking about the extent of diseases in India, Dr. Rafik said that India is leading in major diseases such as heart ailments, diabetes and cancer. He also pointed out that due to the excessive use of cell phones within 20 years the number India may also lead in Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. Rafiq said that in the case of health management, most of the people take medicines or run to the hospitals once they become victims of diseases. They do not realise the importance of the prevention of disease by developing immunity or resistance to diseases in the body by following certain disciplines such as balanced diet, exercise and keeping mental balance.
Pointing out the chief causes of the diseases, Dr. Rafik listed food habits, pollution and stress as the three roots of various diseases. The food and snacks that we consume consists of nearly seventy percent of chemicals. Due to the pollution of the environment people fall victims to various types of ailments as asthma and allergies. Tension and stress are responsible for 50 to 60 percent of the diseases.
Dr. Rafiq spoke about the benefits of naturopathy in increasing immunity in the body so as to resist the diseases and briefly mentioned about the various therapies.
Earlier, Commodore Jerome Castelino introduced and welcomed Dr. Mohammed Rafik. Rajendra Shetty, President of the Lions Club of Moodubelle honoured Dr. Rafiq by presenting a memento.
