Inauguration of the Ordinary Jubilee Year 2025 in the Diocese of Udupi

Udupi: The year 2025 marks the 2025th anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ and is being celebrated as an ordinary Jubilee Year. The main gate of the Milagres Cathedral was opened in the Diocese of Udupi on Sunday, December 29th by the Bishop of Udupi, His Eminence Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo.

 

The Jubilee Year was inaugurated by Pope Francis at the Vatican on December 24th by opening the main doors of St. Peter’s Basilica, and as a symbol of this, it was launched by opening the main doors of the respective cathedrals in all Catholic dioceses around the world on December 29th.

 

The Archbishop then offered the Holy Eucharist and in his message explained the meaning and significance of the Jubilee celebration by citing examples from the Old Testament. He said that the celebration consists of five main elements.

 

Jubilee is a year of jubilee celebrations, a sweet amalgamation of the five elements-Remembrance, Condolences, Reconciliation, Right Path and Celebration. The main purpose of the festival is to celebrate the celebration by remembering God’s love in our daily lives, living on the right path through reconciliation and harmony with God and society. The Jubilee year is a gift from God and while celebrating the festival, we should all be grateful for God’s blessings in bringing prosperity to the community, he said.

The Jubilee Year will be celebrated through continuous programs for a year, which will not allow for external pomp and show, but will give greater importance to spiritual life. He said that a procession of the Holy Cross will be held in every family of the churches of the diocese throughout the year, thereby giving importance to spiritual life.

 

The Holy Mass was attended by the distinguished priest of the Diocese of Udupi, Monsignor Ferdinand Gonsalves, Chancellor Rev. Dr.Roshan D’Souza, Director of the Anugraha Pastoral Center Rev. Fr.Vincent Crasta, Director of the Sampada Rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto, Director of Religious Commissions Rev. Fr. Cyril Lobo, Rev. Fr. Wilson D’Souza, Kalyanpur Milagres Cathedral Assistant Priests REv. Fr. Pradeep Cardoza, Rev. Dr. Gencil Alva, Guest Priests Rev. Fr. Ronson D’Souza, Rev. Fr. Manoj Furtado, Rev. Fr. Valerian Castellino, Rev. Fr. Vincent Lobo.

 

In view of the Jubilee Year giving great importance to spiritual life, there is an opportunity to visit holy pilgrimage sites. The Archbishop advised to visit the official holy pilgrimage sites in the diocese, such as Milagres Cathedral, Kalyanpur, St. Lawrence Minor Basilica, Attur, Karkala, Stella Maris Shrine, Kalmadi, and St. Anthony’s Shrine, Kerekate, Hosangady, at least once a year to gain spiritual joy in life.
