Udupi, 11 Aug: It is possible to bring change in the society through service and the people’s representatives should focus on this, said Most Rev. Dr.Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese. He was speaking as the chief guest at the felicitation ceremony organized by Catholic Sabha Udupi Region at Anugraha Pastoral Center near Ambagilu, Kakkunje on Sunday, 11 August 2024.
Speaking further, the Bishop said that all persons recognize the service of the Christian community. There is no greater reward when those elected as people’s representatives and those elected in social service organizations respond to the sufferings of the downtrodden and do their work. Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo also said “Governments today provides milk, eggs, books, uniforms for children’s education but neglect to appoint the necessary teachers to educate the same children. Children cannot be given quality education without good teachers along with all the facilities. Also, the people’s representatives should draw the government’s attention to the government’s imposition on minority educational institutions in the name of regulations”.
Udupi-Chikmagaluru MP Kota Srinivasa Pujari, who spoke on receiving the award, said that service will have a real meaning only when one studies all the issues of the society. He said that after independence, the work of making gentlemen citizens in the country through education is being done by the community and let this work continue.
Legislative Council member SL Bhoje Gowda said that the work of the Christian community which has joined hands in building a healthy society by providing education and health services to everyone as per the wish of the constitution is commendable. He said that he is ready to work honestly in any kind of work related to educational institutions.
At the same time, the newly elected people’s representatives and those who were elected as presidents of social service organizations were also honoured.
Catholic Sabha Udupi Region President Santosh Cornelio presided over the program.
Veronica Cornelio, ex-president of Mysore Soaps and Detergent, gave introductory remarks and Gerald Fernandes, ex-president of Udupi Zilla Panchayat, gave felicitations.
