Udupi: District Level Teachers’ Day of Special Schools Celebrated at Manasa, Pamboor

Udupi/Pamboor, 05 Sep 2022: The Udupi District level Teachers’ Day of Special Schools was celebrated on Monday, 5 September 2022 at 10 am at the Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre, Pamboor. Teachers from 14 Special Schools spread across the Udupi Districts enthusiastically participated in this special event. The Teachers’ Day was celebrated jointly by Badagubettu Credit Cooperative Society, Udupi, Lions and Leo Clubs, Udupi-Indrali, Udupi District Special Teaching and Non-teaching Staff Association and Parents-Teachers Association, Manasa, Pamboor.
The Teachers’ Day programme was presided over by Dr. Edward Lobo-Founder President and Trustee of Manasa. Other dignitaries on the dais included Mrs. Ratna-Welfare Officer of the Specially Abled, Specially abled and Senior Citizens Empowerment Department, Udupi, MJF Ln. Jayakar Shetty Indrali- President of the Udupi District Cooperatives Federation, Henry Menezes- President of Manasa Special School, Pamboor, Mrs. Agnes Kunder-Honorary president of the Karnataka State Special Teaching and Non-teaching Staff Association, Dr. Kanti Harish-President of the Karnataka State Special Teaching and Non-teaching Staff Association, Rajesh Serigar-General Manager of Badagubettu Credit Cooperative Society, Udupi, Ln. Mohan Shetty-President of the Lions Club, Udupi-Indrali, Ravindra H.-President of Udupi District Special Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff Association, John Martis-Trustee of Manasa, Joseph Noronha-Secretary of Manasa and Sr. Ancilla Fernandes-Principal of Manasa.
The programme commenced with the prayer song sung by the teachers followed by the welcome address by Henry Menezes.
The Teachers’ Day programme was inaugurated by Mrs. Ratna by ceremoniously lighting the lamp along with the dignitaries on the dais.
In her message, Mrs. Ratna highlighted the importance of the Teachers’ Day with special reference to the teachers who have been dedicating their life and service to the especially abled children in special schools. She appreciated the service of these teachers and wished them well.
For retired teachers and one of the non-teaching staff of special schools were honoured by the dignitaries on the dais on this occasion. They were presented with shawl, garland, fruit basket, memento and citation.
Henry Menezes - President of Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre was honoured for his service to the institution and for organizing the Teachers’ Day celebration.
In his address as the chief guest of the function, MJF Ln. Jayakar Shetty Indrali narrated his association with the Special School for Differently Abled Children-Asha Nilaya since the last 30 years. He said that the teachers associated and serving in these institutions deserve to be honoured and appreciated. He considered himself fortunate for having been of some help to these institutions. He considered the special children as the ‘Children of God’ who require special attention, care and training to live their life. In this respect, he said that the teachers in these schools contribute much more than teachers serving in any other normal schools.
Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Kanti Harish-President of the Karnataka State Special Teaching and Non-teaching Staff Association narrated the problems faced by the special teachers as the government has not been responding to their plea of reasonable increase in their honorarium. The agitation undertaken by the special teachers from all over Karnataka has not been taken seriously by the authorities. She hoped that the government would understand their problems and consider their demands favourably.
John Martis, the Trustee of Manasa traced the origin and growth of Manasa since the last 25 years and said that this year the institution will be celebrating its Silver Jubilee. He outlined the efforts taken by the founders to start and promote the institution facing many problems and adversities.
Ravindra H. also spoke on this occasion appreciating the efforts made by the management and staff of Manasa in organizing for the first time the Udupi District Level Special Teachers’ Day at their institution.
In his presidential address, Dr. Edward Lobo made an appeal to all the Principals and teachers of the 14 Schools of Specially Abled Children to stay united and work for the betterment of their respective institutions. He further suggested that the teachers should have better interaction through seminars as well as workshops that would give them better exposure.
MJF Ln. Jayakar Shetty Indrali honoured Henry Menezes, Sr. Ancilla Fernandes and Dr. Edward Lobo on this occasion.
Commodore Jerome Castelino and Irwin D’Souza were present for the programme.
Mrs. Leelavathi - Principal of Chaitnya Special School, Kundapura proposed the vote of thanks and Mrs. Hemalatha of Manasa compered the programme.
