Mangaluru: New Mangalore Port Authority rolls out 3 projects @ Rs 695 crore under PM Gati Shakti

Mangaluru, 10 Mar 2022: In order to improve the cargo handling capacity of New Mangalore Port, the newly-incorporated New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) has taken up many projects.
Meanwhile, under PM Gati Shakti Yojana, the Authority has taken up to execute 3 projects at a cost of Rs 695 crore, said the Authority chairman Dr A V Ramana.
Addressing the media persons at Business Development Centre, Panambur, here on Tuesday March 8, Dr Ramana said that under PM Gati Shakti Yojana, the emphasis is being laid for several development works in coordination with 16 departments including shipping, waterways, railways and roadways. It also includes Bharatmala, Sagarmala, inland waterways, dry docks and UDAAN. The union minister for highways has been keen on development of New Mangalore Port, said Dr Ramana.
Dr Ramana also said that under PM Gati Shakti Yojana, mechanization of berth number 14 for handling container and other cargos in DBFOT basis with M/s JSW Mangalore Port Terminal Private Limited at a cost of Rs 281 crore, construction of new berth number 17 for handling bulk and dry-bulk cargos worth Rs 217 crore and construction of fishing harbor at Kulali, near here at a cost of Rs 197 crore will be undertaken, added Dr Ramana.
Under the multi-modal connectivity project, construction of berth number 17 would generate nearly 2,000 jobs and as per DPR, berth number 17 would handle 131 ships ferrying heavy cargo, stressed Dr Ramana.
Further the proposed Kulai fisheries port will have state-of-the-art infrastructure such as cold storage facility for fisheries stock, auction yard, anchoring for local trawlers and fishing boats. It would fetch better rates for fisheries stock at the international market. Besides, the new facility would reduce congestion in Old Port and promote shore based fisheries industries thereby generating 1,280 jobs, emphasized Dr Ramana.
