Udupi: Yakshagana Guru Vittal Nayak, native of Kattingeri-Belle passes away

Udupi, 09 Mar 2022: Sixty-three-year-old Vittal Nayak, a native of Kattingeri that comes at the limits of Belle gram panchayat, near here passed away on Sunday March 7.

 

It’s significant that Vittal was training Yakshagana artistes for free at his home for many years, despite he was earning a sustenance out of selling vadapav at the junction of Kattingeri, near here. He was ailing in the last 2 years and was living alone since his wife passed away many years ago. He had trained many budding Yakshagana artistes including K J Ganesh of Ambalapady who became a Guru in Yakshagana.

 

 

Vittal has been felicitated for his contributions to Yakshagana and social service activities. He was also felicitated during Kaup 2nd Kannada Sahitya Sammelan in this regard.

 

Kattingeri temple managing trustee Devdas Hebbar Kattingeri, Bantakal temple managing trustee Sasidar Wagle, Belle gram panchayat president Sudhakar Poojary, entrepreneurs Belle Pundalika Nayak and Krishna Acharya, advocate Santosh Moodubelle condoled the demise of veteran Yakshagana Guru Vittal Nayak.
