Udupi: Maruthi Omni catches fire, youths escape unhurt

Udupi, 08 July 2011: A Omni van suddenly caught fire and burned on Thursday in Indrali. The four youths in the van escaped unhurt. This car belongs to Ravi, a resident of Patel Thota, Kadekar, Udyavara and this used car was purchased for Rs. 25,000 just 2 days back from Mangalore. He also spent more Rs. 10,000 for its repair. On Thursday noon his friends Hasanabba, Ismail, Munaf and Rajab from Kaup delivered a refrigerator in this car to Manipal and they were returning back. Hasanabba was driving the car.
When they came in front of Indrali Petrol Bunk, the wires next to driver’s seat started getting spark. They immediately stopped the car and tried to separate the wires, but the car caught fire. Immediately all four jumped out of the car. The next moment the fire caught to the petrol and the car started burning. They quickly called the fire brigade, but by the time they came the car was completely burnt. The case has been registered in Manipal Police Station.
